Locals participate and enjoy this year’s SPAR Women’s Race
The annual SPAR Women's Race provides an array of activities for all.
This Saturday marked the return of the annual SPAR Women’s Challenge after a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Thousands of women (and some men) draped their black SPAR Women’s Race T- shirts, tutus, wigs and running shoes and headed down to SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Runners had the option of a 5km or 10km route to race. Some ran, some walked, some competed, and some merely enjoyed the experience, though fun was had by all.

“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming success of the recent SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane. The race was a testament to each participant’s unwavering spirit and determination, leaving us inspired and in awe,” said the race organiser, Retha Ingenbleek.
Attendees enjoyed various performances from artists such as Janie Bay and Loyiso, food and entertainment stalls and fun games and competitions to play.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every participant, supporter, and volunteer who contributed to the triumph of this event. Your dedication and passion made a difference in the lives of so many. As we reflect on this unforgettable experience, we are reminded of the power when women empower each other and the ripple effect it creates,” Ingenbleek continued.

Tadu Nare of Ethiopia won the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane 10km in 32.57 minutes.
“We are immensely proud to be a part of this journey, and we eagerly look forward to the endless possibilities that lie ahead. Together, we can continue to create more smiles and make a lasting impact in our community,” Igenbleek concluded.
