Trains from Mabopane to Pretoria remain suspended
“After the team has cleared the scene, the infrastructure department will have to assess the line before service resumption.”
Metrorail commuters are advised to use alternative transport while the service between Mabopane-Pretoria and Dewildt-Hercules is still suspended.
A goods train derailed at Hercules in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Spokesperson Lilian Mofokeng said the service was suspended to allow the technical team time to clear the scene.
“After the team has cleared the scene, the infrastructure department will have to assess the line before service resumption.
Commuters travelling on the Mabopane and Dewildt lines are advised to seek alternative transport until further notice,” Mofokeng said.
It is not yet clear what caused the derailment as agency technicians were still busy with investigations.
Metrorail apologised to its commuters for the inconvenience caused by the unfortunate incident.
On Thursday it issued a statement reminding its commuters that there would be no train moving until further notice.
“Metrorail Gauteng confirms that no train will operate tomorrow (August 17) morning on the Mabopane-Pretoria and Dewildt-Hercules lines due to a derailment at Hercules,” the statement read.
