Female TUT student found dead at residence
The student’s identity is being withheld while the university awaits an official report from the police on the cause of death.
A Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student was found dead in her residence building earlier this week.
According to reports the second-year student reportedly took her own life in the Pretoria CBD, Visagie Street and was found dead on August 15.
TUT spokesperson Phaphama Tshisikhawe said the university mourned the passing of the student.
“TUT is deeply saddened by the passing of a second-year student on August 15.”
Tshisikhawe said the university was further awaiting an official report from the police regarding the circumstances of the death.
“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to the student’s family, friends and fellow students.
“The university is providing the family and friends of the deceased with as much support as we can at this difficult time,” Tshisikhawe said.
“To honour the memory of the deceased with dignity and to afford the family the space to digest their great loss, the name of the student is being withheld for now.
“It will be revealed in due course.”
At the time of publication, Rekord still awaited police comment.
