Metro works on restoring services in Region 1

“Customers should be alert that there will be a delay due to the ongoing strike action,” says MMC Themba Fosi.

Tshwane metro said it is aware of a high number of power outages and water supply interruptions in Region 1.

The metro said it is working hard to address this problem.

MMC for utilities and regional operations and coordinator, Themba Fosi said it has come to the City’s attention that the recent protest actions in Soshanguve Block F and Block XX were related to service interruptions in those areas.

“The metro would like to assure residents of all the areas that are affected by these interruptions that constraints are due to the ongoing unlawful and unprotected strike by some employees.

“Our technicians are working hard to restore interrupted services, not only in Region 1 but throughout the seven regions of Tshwane.”

Fosi said it must be put on record that vandalism, cable theft and illegal connections are significantly contributing to the outages.

“For instance, in Soshanguve ext. 8 and 10, the network keeps on tripping due to an overload due to illegal connections,” he added.

He said that in Block CC, AA and FF East, GG, HH and FF, a medium-voltage cable was stolen while a mini substation in Block XX burnt due also due to illegal connections.

Fosi urged customers to take note that there will be a delay in the repair work due to the ongoing strike.

“The metro apologises for the inconvenience that the strike has caused.”
