Tshwane residents urged to collect title deeds
Only homeowners are allowed to come to collect their title deeds and officials would not give it to anyone else.
The Tshwane metro has in its possession more than 11 700 uncollected title deeds, it confirmed.
MMC for Human Settlements Ofentse Madzebatela, through a statement, invited all residents who have not collected their deeds to do so.
“All homeowners with outstanding title deeds are urged to visit their nearest City of Tshwane regional office to check if it has been issued.
“An original ID will be required, and if the property is in the name of a deceased person, they will need to produce a letter of authority from the Master’s office,” the MMC said.
He, however, said only homeowners were allowed to come collect their title deeds and that officials would not give it to anyone else.
“A title deed is a legal document that must be kept in a safe place as losing or misplacing it will result in enormous legal expenses to replace the original document.
“Asserting the property rights of our residents through the handing over of title deeds remains a core priority of our multiparty coalition government,” Madzebatela added.
The municipality further gave the breakdown of the 11 744 uncollected title deeds per region.
– Region 1: 6 253
– Region 2: 2 22
– Region 3: 288
– Region 4: 891
– Region 5: 211
– Region 6: 1 453
– Region 7: 425
The human settlements department has been issuing title deeds since September 2022, during which time 200 Atteridgeville ext. 7 residents received theirs.
The department had in the past struggled to reach beneficiaries to collect their title deeds for several reasons, including that they changed contact details without notifying municipal offices.
The municipality said this led to a delay in beneficiaries getting their title deeds.
It further said it was the main priority for the current administration to issue title deeds to deserving beneficiaries.
“The City of Tshwane remains committed to accelerating the issuing of title deeds and providing a range of mixed social housing solutions to deserving beneficiaries,” the metro concluded.
