2.7 magnitude quake hits parts of Gauteng

A magnitude 2.7 tremor shook parts south of Gauteng on Wednesday evening.
This was the fourth seismic event in the past two months, according to Council for Geosciences.
Residents who felt the vibrations and shaking, later posted their reactions to social media.
The council confirmed that the tremor magnitude of around 2.7.
There were no injuries that have been reported.
“The earthquake registered a local magnitude of approximately 3.0 as recorded by the South African National Seismography Network (SANSN). The epicentre was located south of Johannesburg in Doornkop,” the council said.
However, at this point, it is not yet clear if tremors were felt in parts of Pretoria or Centurion.

In June an estimated 4.8 magnitude tremor was felt in Gauteng, with Boksburg as the epicentre. It reached as far as Pretoria and caused structural damage to some properties.
In July a local magnitude 2.98 tremor was reported in some parts of Johannesburg with its epicentre in the south of Johannesburg, just 2km south of Harmony’s Doornkop gold mine.
