Mr and Miss Uitsig crowned
The school’s head of culture says the experience helped develop the learners’ self-confidence and gave the 20 finalists a chance to know themselves.

Uitsig High School recently crowned its Mr and Miss Uitsig at the annual MMU gala evening held at the school hall.
This year’s titles went to Tumelo Motaung and Thato Matlala.
The school said this was one of its biggest cultural events and the finalists had put in months and months of hard work into making the event a success.
Happiness Molefe, who was crowned Mrs Universe Africa Charity in 2023 and Top 11 Mrs Universe Africa finalist, acted as emcee for the memorable evening.

The panel of judges, including actor Ray Neo Busi (Zee in 7de Laan), Rakesh Keshav (Mr Uitsig 2022), Karin Louw (artist and former Uitsig Head of Culture), and Valentine Murandu (professional model) judged 20 learners.
Matlala said: “I’m blessed to have been part of this year’s MMU and even more to have been crowned a winner.”
“I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teachers, friends and family who cheered me on.
“We all wear the crown,” she said humbly.

Motaung shared what he had learned from the journey.
“MMU has been a real journey of self-improvement and acceptance.
“The experience has taught me that it is okay to stand out and express yourself.
“MMU has transformed me into someone more caring, confident, and passionate and I am truly grateful for just being chosen,” he said.

Other titles included:
– Miss Personality: Nare Mokgohloa
– Mr Personality: Jabu Mahlangu
– Miss Photogenic: Siwaphiwe Gora
– Mr Photogenic: Adnaan Karriem
Uitsig’s head of culture Annamarie Scheepers described the event as a success.
“This is not your everyday pageant. It is a group of learners who get the chance to get to know themselves, and to make friends with peers they never knew they could be friends with. The most important part of this experience is the self-confidence and self-love being developed through time. It is just amazing to see how these 20 finalists grow as young adults,” said Scheepers.
