Sunnyside CPF calls on residents to comment on safety plan
Sunnyside CPF plans to host a community meeting unveiling the plan once all suggestions are collected.
Residents have until September 21 to comment on the Sunnyside CPF community safety plan.
This plan was first established during a recent community imbizo at Loftus Park at which organisers discussed various crime trends.
Sunnyside police had reported an increase in house robberies.
The primary goal of this meeting was to raise awareness and share strategies to prevent this and other crimes such as hijacking, burglaries and business robberies.
The plan first seeks to gather suggestions from locals on particular issues in their area and then work them in.
“We agreed on a phased approach to allow sector crime forums to gather inputs from their respective community stakeholders to deposit their views,” said Sunnyside CPF chairperson Sandile Dube.
“In that, we call for all community stakeholders to approach their respective sector crime forum representatives, ward councillors, etc., to deposit their views, which will give rise to the Sunnyside community safety plan.”

During the imbizo, the sector manager Captain Smith provided safety tips to attendees.
He also emphasised the importance of community members getting to know each other and promptly reporting suspicious activities and vehicles. Additionally, he stressed the need for a collaborative approach to home security, involving everyone from children and parents to domestic workers.
The CPF also recently hired 136 community patrollers, stating that its objective is to have more than 200 patrollers working in the six-sector precinct.
The CPF stated that a public meeting is in the works and the plan will be presented to the community after the input deadline.
Sectors have until 21 September 21 to deposit their views. Community members can also make use of the suggestion box at the police station.
Inputs can also be forwarded to Sunnyside CPF secretary Sammy Boshego at sunnysidecpfpta@gmail.com.
