Restrictions still apply due to high water demand
The high water demand by Tshwane residents have put a strain on the Rand Water Mapleton system which provides bulk water to the city.

The Tshwane metro and Rand Water have expressed concern over the high demand that has strained the Mapleton water supply network.
“This increase is putting a strain on the system and Rand Water is unable to maintain its reservoirs at high water levels,” said metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
Mashigo said water utility stations are operating at maximum capacity however, reservoir levels are at their lowest.
“This will result in the supply pressure being low and high-lying areas having low pressure to no water supply.”
Tshwane receives 79% of its bulk water from Rand Water. If the water utility systems struggle, the city will also struggle to supply its customers.
Mashigo said Rand Water has in turn given all its customers limits on the amount of water they can use.
“This is done to ensure sustainable water supply.”
With reducing water consumption being the only viable option to save the distribution network from collapsing, the city reiterates its plea to all residents to use water sparingly and wisely.
Mashigo reminded residents that the water restrictions that were imposed previously in line with the Water Supply By-Law were never withdrawn and are still applicable.
The following specific water restrictions still apply:
– Do not water gardens.
– Do not wash cars.
– Do not clean driveways or pavements using hosepipes.
– Do not fill swimming pools.
– Flush toilets only when necessary.
– Close a running tap while brushing your teeth.
– Reduce daily water usage as much as possible.
