Heatwave expected to cool down on Sunday evening

The scorching temperatures are expected to drop starting from Sunday evening and completely subside by Monday.

The scorching temperatures experienced in Gauteng this week are expected to subside by Sunday evening, dropping to a more comfortable minimum of 18°C.

The temperature change will undoubtedly be a welcome relief for residents struggling to stay cool.

South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecaster Dipou Tawana, said the conditions will spread out as the upper high will completely move out of the country on Monday.

This past week, the maximum temperatures recorded in some areas of Tshwane reached a sweltering 36°C, making it one of the hottest weeks this year.

“The cooler weather is expected to stay, bringing a sense of relief.”

She furthermore said they were monitoring the system and indicated a 40% chance of thundershowers on Monday over Gauteng.

The heat wave with high temperatures is expected to persist this weekend over Gauteng, North West, Free State, Francis Baard DM in the Northern Cape, Mpumalanga Highveld, and the western parts of Limpopo province.

The forecasted temperatures for Tshwane today are expected to hit 35°C by the afternoon.

The Tshwane Emergency Services offered the following preventive measures:

Staying hydrated by drinking copious amounts of water

Limiting outdoor activities (especially during the hottest time of the day)

Wearing loose clothing and avoiding dark-coloured clothing where possible

Remaining in the shade where possible

Keeping an eye on vulnerable individuals

Ensuring that children or animals are not left in parked vehicles

Avoiding strenuous physical activity if possible
