E-hailing driver nabbed with firearm, has similar pending case
This is not the first incident in which the 40-year-old had been caught with a firearm, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
The Pretoria magistrate’s court sitting at Kgosi Mampuru prison this week has denied an e-hailing taxi driver bail.
Tshepo Calvin Masola (40) is facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
This is claimed not be be his first encounter with a weapon, as he was facing a similar charge in another pending case, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
NPA Pretoria spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said: “It is alleged that on July 18, while the police were patrolling in Sunnyside, they noticed a suspicious man.
“When they approached him, he ran. Police gave chase and caught up with him while trying to jump a wall and he was arrested.”
Mahanjana said the man asked the court to release him on R2 000 bail but state prosecutor Lorinda Gey Van Pittius opposed the application. He told the court that the accused had committed this offence while there was a pending similar case against him.
The magistrate agreed the state had a strong case against the accused e-hailing driver.
“Bail was denied, and the matter postponed to November 15, for court allocation.”
