CPF fixes bothersome Uitsig pothole

Wierdabrug Sector 2 members tackled a pothole that had been catching unsuspecting motorists on Uitsig Road at night.

Members from the Wierdabrug Sector 2 CPF in Rooihuiskraal and The Reeds, and Sbahle Landscapes undertook a late-night temporary fixing of a pothole that residents say haunted them.

Wierdabrug Sector 2 CPF spokesperson Mynhardt Le Roux said that the spot where the pothole is situated has been a problem for years.

Recent rainy weather led to the rapid degradation of many roads across Tshwane as the metro battles to catch up on services affected by the three-month long metro workers’ strike.

On Friday, the City of Tshwane officially announced the end to the strike.

“We’re relieved that the strike is finally over and services have resumed in earnest,” said City Manager Johann Mettler.

While residents wait for the return of normal services, members from the CPF devised a solution for the dangerous pothole.

Mynhardt Le Roux, spokesperson for the CPF branch, said that the spot where the pothole formed has been an issue for years.

“We reported it at the beginning of the year when we had the raining season, as it grew bigger and bigger without anyone really attending to it.”

“More and more people got caught by it,” he said.

He explained that soon, private individuals fixed several potholes on the Uitsig road heading towards Old Johannesburg Road.

“That lasted right until we had this huge rain over the weekend.”

The pothole quickly grew following the rains

“Because of the amount of traffic on that road, the pothole very quickly grows bigger and bigger.”

“Then at night, without lights and when the road is quiet, people hit it and damage their vehicles.”

“We had three incidents last night, one after the other, probably all within about 40 minutes.”

The project was part of the Wierdabrug Sector 2 CPF’s commitment to keeping the community safe, including road safety.

Le Roux said that residents were welcome to join the Wierdabrug Sector 2 CPF in The Reeds and Rooihuiskraal groups on social media and messaging platforms.

Alternatively, Le Roux advised residents to save their manned reaction number, 076 883 2437, for crime matters, medical emergencies, or any assistance that community members might need.
