Tshwane hands out title deeds to 260 residents in the north
Having a shelter means having dignity and giving one a sense of pride.
About 260 Ga-Rankuwa residents could not contain their excitement as the Tshwane human settlement department handed them title deeds to their homes.
Lucia Wiso, a beneficiary, said it was heartwarming to have finally received papers for her house, as she now felt like a real homeowner.
“This is an honour for me, as I can finally renovate my house the way I want.
“I would like to thank my councillor Ausi Violet for her endless support and patience she has shown and also express my gratitude to MMC Ofentse Madzebatela,” Wiso said.
George Nkomo (65) said at his age he never believed that one day he would have papers to his house in his hands.
Nkomo said being at his age without a name being attached to a property was a shame to him.
“As a father, one must be able to leave behind an inheritance for his children, now that I have a house of my own, I will rest peacefully knowing that my children have a place they call home.”
During the handover, human settlements MMC Madzebatela said the handover was not just a bureaucratic process to him but it symbolised the fundamental rights of one owning a property.
“Property ownership is not only a symbol of personal achievement but also a catalyst for economic growth and social stability.
“It provides individuals and families with a solid foundation to build their lives upon, enabling them to plan for the future and invest in their communities,” added the MMC.
Madzebatela said the handover was a way of unlocking the potential within society, adding that it was also providing leverage for economic purposes as it would prove their standard of living.
He said the occasion represented progress, empowerment and hope which was a step towards a more equitable and prosperous society.
