Mel die Storieverteller brings her side-splitting show to Lynnwood
WIN | One of two sets of double tickets to “Almal is Mal” at Die Blou Hond on December 5.

Mel die Storieverteller is out writing her own success story as she takes Afrikaans comedy by storm, with her latest performance of her side-splitting “Almal is Mal” coming to Die Blou Hond on December 5.
Mel became a household name after her sensational sense of humour went viral, quickly building her witty takes on current affairs and life issues a fan base.
More than comedy, Mel is out to use her platform for the good of all by becoming a source of inspiration as she tackles issues such as body positivity, sexism and LGBTQIA+ hate.
With millions of views on her videos, thousands of followers on social media and hundreds of members in the audience, her dreams have become reality as she reaps the fruits of her hard work.

Mel hasn’t been around long, but she’s already made her mark.
“At the end of 2021, I filmed my first video for YouTube when I poked fun at the lyrics of Afrikaans songs.
“I then moved to TikTok. I quickly reached 100 000 followers on the platform and then started sharing more photos and stories on my Instagram. Facebook quickly followed. That’s when all three social media platforms caught fire that I realised – maybe I’ve caught something here,” said Mel.
According to her, the breakthrough moment was when she posted comic satirical videos about the Real Housewives of Pretoria on her social media in 2022.
“Then ‘important’ people saw me,” she said with a laugh.
People immediately caught on to her humour, but also her voice for women and others that are so often not heard.
In May, Mel made the move from social media to the stage, with her first show at the Atterbury Theatre on May 2.
“I had to make a move. I’m ambitious, and didn’t think that social media would be a long-term fulfilling role.
“I wanted to do a one-woman show, but I wanted to do it as Mel, not as a character. I am a woman with an opinion and a unique humorous outlook on life, so stand-up comedy happened very organically, she said.
Mel has taken her one-woman show from Polokwane to East London, and from Tzaneen to Paternoster, spreading the laughs as she goes.
“I’m talking about being human – the real human being without the plastered everything – hypocritical people, differences between men and women and our own crazy way of doing things,” she said.
“I am a proud LGBTQIA+ ally. I’m also myself in my videos – sometimes I look like a made-up model, but sometimes I’ve just woken up looking like a dishevelled blanket – it’s all about confidence and inspiring other people to be confident too.
Audiences are looking for an outspoken woman who stands up for them and can put what they feel into words. But although women are my target market – the men, who are dragged along by their wives, walk away as bigger fans.”
If you can’t make it to the show, luckily Mel has a podcast along with Jou Saffa Mamma and Edó, “Dinner en Skinner”, where the refreshing trio brings you an exciting mix of sincerity, humour and world knowledge.
