Tshwane calls on residents to pay outstanding debt
Electricity units would be directed to settling owned monies

As the silly season starts, Tshwane has urged residents to pay their outstanding debt.
City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said some of the residents failed to pay for their municipal services.
“The municipality understands the economic circumstances most of the families and individuals are facing, in these troubling times.
For the city to continue with the uninterrupted provision of services, customers must pay their part and take responsibility for paying their municipal accounts.
To maintain trust, transparency and improve satisfaction in the billing process, the city has been working diligently to ensure that customers receive accurate municipal bills and there are no elements of errors or inconsistencies in the billing process,” said Mashigo.
He said the municipality noticed a concerning trend that customers failed to pay their water, property rates and waste removal bills.
He said this behaviour hampers the municipality’s ability to maintain and improve essential services, and also placed an unfair burden on those who were paying their accounts.
“Customers who are on prepaid electricity, please note that you will not be able to top up your account until the outstanding debt has been settled or a payment arrangement has been made.
This means, if a customer is in arrears and attempts to purchase electricity, that transaction will not be processed as normal instead their cash would go towards settling their outstanding debt to the city.
By allocating the funds towards the debt, we aim to assist in the resolution of arrears and maintain the stability of our services. To address this issue, we kindly request all customers who are in arrears to settle their outstanding bills or make payment arrangement as soon as possible,” said Mashigo.
