TMPD nab ‘drug dealers’ in local operations
Two illegal immigrants were arrested, two foreign nationals nabbed for drug possession and two carjackers bust, while 13 drunk drivers were locked up during joint operations.
Tshwane metro police (TMPD) cracked down on cable theft, nabbed drug dealers, car hijackers, drunk drivers and a murder suspect during operations from December 14 to date.
Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the first success came when drug unit members nabbed two drug dealers.
Mahamba said the first suspect was arrested in Pretoria North in possession of crystal meth with an estimated street value of R12 000.
The second suspect was arrested in Pretoria West in possession of crystal meth with an estimated street value R10 000.
Mahamba said on Saturday December 16, TMPD responded to a tip-off about suspects wanted for murder in New Eersterus near Hammanskraal.
“The officers spotted the two suspects inside a vehicle at a petrol station.”
The suspects were apprehended and during a vehicle search, officers found a firearm with the serial number filed off and 17 bullets.
It was also established that the vehicle was reported hijacked in an incident where the driver shot.
The two will be charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, car hijacking and murder.
TMPD later arrested two people in a multidisciplinary operation in Soshanguve on suspicion of cable theft.
“One man was arrested for possession of suspected stolen copper cables and the other for damaging and tampering with essential infrastructure and illegal immigration.”
TMPD enjoyed another success as it nabbed a man for possession of suspected stolen property – copper and fibre cables – and illegal immigration.
Mahamba said TMPD conducted another successful operation responding to a complaint about a man in possession of an illegal firearm in Menlo Park.
The complainant had reported that the man “terrorised the neighbourhood”.
Upon realising police were outside his house, the suspect fled and a chase ensued.
He then dropped his firearm and it was confiscated.
Mahamba said other successes included 13 arrests for drunk driving during a joint operation in Bronkhorstspruit on December 15 and 16.
He said 155 traffic infringement fines were also issued.
Mahamba expressed his gratitude to all officers that ensured transgressors were put behind bars.
