Pretoria North SAPS gives early Christmas gifts to the less unfortunate

Policing is not just about enforcing laws but also about uniting communities.

The South African Police Service police in Pretoria North and its Community Policing Forum had put smiles on the faces of over 30 children in Sonheuwel caravan park bon Accord on Saturday.

The men and women in blue organised a “Give back to the Community” campaign for the less fortunate children in various policing precincts to celebrate Christmas.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto said the campaign was led by the Head of Visible Policing, Captain Theuns Smith, who was supported by Captain Horn and the local Community Policing Forum on the day.

“The group visited over 35 children at Sonheuwel Caravan Park in Bon Accord, during which Christmas gifts were handed out to the kids, which included toys, sweets, and many more goodies.

“This program seeks to express love and encouragement and to motivate young people,” said Moloto.

He attributed the event’s success to Smith’s commitment to ensuring that all needed gifts were collected as early as January.

“While handing out these gifts to children, they were also provided safety tips to ensure they knew what was happening in and around their community. This approach is part of the strategic plan to improve Community Relations.”

The manager of the Center for Crisis at the Police station, Carina Bam, said it was heart-warming to see children smiling and happy to receive their gifts.

“It was nice to witness the community coming out to help each other during this time. Happy children mean happy communities, which breeds a safer environment,” Bam added.

She further said that the initiative was an annual thing, adding that this year’s one was bigger and better than the previous ones.
