Tshwane's alcohol bus was utilised in many of the operations, according to TMPD

Metro police stationed in the local law enforcement unit have netted about 76 drunk drivers in December.

This is thanks to a Tshwane alcohol bus, according to Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

Mahamba said the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) had been conducting daily road safety and By-laws operations from the beginning December.

“The Chief of TMPD mostly led the operations. They included day and night operations.”

These operations were conducted in all the City of Tshwane regions. “

He said the alcohol bus was utilised in many of the operations.

“Several successes were achieved, which includes the arrest of 76 drunk drivers.”

He said the drug unit and regional and cable theft members made several arrests for offences such as assault, possession of unlicensed firearms, hijackings, drug dealing and cable theft.

He said these crimes resulted in a total of 118 arrests.

“The TMPD will continue with these operations beyond the festive season in all regions of Tshwane.”

He said recently a roadblock was mounted on Doreen Road which connects Akasia to Soshanguve.

“So far the roadblock has resulted in the impounding of 5 vehicles for further investigation by SAPS Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, another vehicle was positively identified as stolen in Odendaalsrus.”
