Two Tshwane guards hospitalised as cables ripped and communities left in dark

A large number of people reportedly pounced on the two guards at the 132KV Claudius Substation leaving Laudium, Erasmia, Claudius and Itireleng without power.

Tshwane says it is focused on restoring power in various areas surrounding Ward 61 after two security guards were attacked and left injured at 132KV Claudius Substation on December 30.

Laudium, Erasmia, Claudius, and Itireleng were all left victim to the hit as a considerable amount of cables were stolen in the process.

It is reported that two guards on duty were overpowered and beaten resulting in one of the feeder cables from the transformer to the panels being cut and stolen.

The theft has left several areas without power as the New Year approaches.

Since the theft, the electricity department dispatched teams to attend to the power outage

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo confirmed the incident where a large number of people pounced on the two guards at the 132KV Claudius Substation.

“The focus is towards restoring power to the affected residents. Thereafter, the city will make an overall assessment of the incident. A dedicated team of technicians is on-site – the estimated time of readiness will be provided in due course.”

Mashigo said the two guards were injured and have been hospitalised following the attack.
