Crime prevention operations conducted in the CBD resulted in the arrests of four male suspects for drug possession.

Another three men were arrested last weekend after being caught with three solar batteries with an estimated value of R15 000 inside the Telkom tower building on the corner of Madiba and Bosman streets.

“Police received a tip-off regarding a suspicious Hyundai i10 suspected to be used for criminal activities including vehicle theft,” said police spokesperson, Constable Thabang Nkhumise.

“Police quickly reacted, traced the vehicle and cornered it at Sophie De Bruyn and Nana Sita streets with three men inside. Upon inspection, the vehicle’s number plate did not correspond with official information and a bag with a 16-channel signal jammer and four sets of gloves were confiscated. The trio was immediately arrested.”

The suspects were taken to the Central police station and charged with fraud, and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

Two more men were also caught last week at the Department of Public Works on the corner of Madiba and Bosman streets with three ABB motor pumps worth thousands of Rands.

Station commander, Brigadier Hlengane Gibin Mashaba welcomed the arrests and applauded all the security entities for maintaining high visibility in the inner city.

“Vandalism of various buildings within the city has been so prevalent over the years and we as the police are working tirelessly to ensure that such criminal acts are minimised,” he said.

Mashaba urged the community to be more cautious and report any criminal activity within the precinct, as this will play a huge role in curbing the surge of crime.

The suspects appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, and further investigation find probe if they have been involved in other crimes.
