Police nab seven suspected motorbike and house robbers in Lyttelton

Police will be investigating whether the suspects can be linked to other crimes in the area.

Seven suspects were arrested in Lyttelton Manor in an early morning operation on Wednesday, January 24.

Lyttelton SAPS arrested the seven for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and car- and housebreaking implements.

“On Wednesday morning members were busy with an operation to curb the recent series of motorbike thefts in the Lyttelton policing area,” said SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk.

Other role players that made up the team were from various private security companies, including Monitor Net, Safe City Projects, Noordvaal, TMPD K9 and Tracker.

Van Dyk said that during the operation the team received information about two suspicious vehicles in the Lyttelton Manor area.

“A description of the vehicles was circulated to the team members and in no time at all, the suspects were spotted.”

He said the suspects were seen driving on Main Road towards Nellmapius Drive in Irene.

“A quick tactical plan was executed and the suspects’ vehicles were stopped and all suspects secured.”

Police discovered upon further investigation that a white Nissan in which some of the suspects were travelling in had been reported stolen in January 2023 in Kempton Park.

They then searched a blue VW Golf and discovered various tools used to break into houses and steal motorcycles.

“In total, seven suspects were arrested for possession of the stolen motor vehicle and possession of car- and house-breaking implements,” said Van Dyk.

“The vehicles were impounded and further investigation will be conducted on them.”

He said the suspects would be appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court within 48 hours.

“Our detective services will be investigating the possibility of linking them to several cases in the area,” he added.
