Police nab 18 in joint Pretoria North operation

The Pretoria North visible police and National Traffic Police arrested the suspects while conducting operations along Rachel de Beer Street.

Pretoria North police and National Traffic police have arrested 18 people for various offences including drunk driving, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession and dealing in drugs.

Police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk said the joint operation was conducted on Saturday, January 27 in Pretoria North.

“The Pretoria North visible police, supported by the National Traffic police, arrested the suspects during a stop and search operation along Rachel De Beer street.”

Van Dyk said several drivers were taken into custody on drunk driving charges after failing a side-of-road blood alcohol test.

“Local authorities are continuing to stamp the authority of the state by ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, including road users.”

Van Dyk said in a separate incident, the Soshanguve K-9 unit arrested a 43 year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm.

He said police immediately acted on a tip-off, which led them to a property in Hippo Street, Theresa Park.

“The man was found in possession of a 303 rifle and 20 live rounds.”

Van Dyk said the man failed to produce a licence for the rifle and was immediately arrested.
