Man airlifted after serious crash on N1 near Wallmannsthal

Emergency services found the man entrapped in his vehicle with critical injuries and after stabilising him, decided to move him to a specialist facility via helicopter.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was airlifted to hospital after he was involved in a serious motor vehicle collision in Pretoria on Monday.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the incident happened on the N1 near Wallmannsthal, north of Pretoria.

Van Reenen said Emer-G-Med emergency services responded to the scene earlier on Monday evening.

He said upon arrival on the accident scene, the man was found entrapped in the wreckage of his vehicle with critical injuries.

Van Reenen said emergency care practitioners worked fervently to release and stabilise the patient.

“After he was stabilised, a decision was made to airlift him with the assistance of the Netcare 911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required.”

He said the cause of the accident is unknown and will form part of a police investigation.
