A 31-year-old Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer was bid farewell today as he was laid to rest at the Garsfontein Cemetery on February 24.

The funeral procession was attended by the Acting Chief of Police Angie Mokasi, multiple staff, family, and friends to bid farewell to Nkululeko Mkhwanazi at his home in Lyttleton, Centurion.

The funeral then proceeded to Garsfontein cemetery.

It is alleged that Mkhwanazi was shot and killed by an unknown man while out with friends at a Chesa Nyama in the Pretoria CBD on February 20.

The officer was born July 08, 1992.

JMPD Spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said the JMPD was deeply saddened by the passing of Mkwanazi.

“Officer Mkwanazi passed whilst he was off duty and it is understood that there is a criminal case that is being investigated by the police, the Department will allow the investigation to continue with the expectancy that the suspects who perpetrated this terrible act are apprehended and face the full might of the law.”

Police had not commented at the time of publishing.
