Robbery suspect arrested after foot chase
A suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery was spotted by local security companies and caught in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

A man arrested as he ran from local security is now facing charges of attempted robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and pointing of a firearm.
Lyttelton SAPS station commander, Brigadier Michelle Toohey, extended her gratitude to all the members who were involved in the arrest, saying that street robberies were a priority crime in her precinct.
According to Fidelity ADT, on Thursday, March 7 the suspect attempted to rob a woman near Alkalien Avenue in Zwartkop.
“Fidelity ADT Centurion community operations manager (COM) found the suspect behind the Alkalien veld. Upon approach, the suspect began to run,” ADT said.
Tshwane SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said that Lyttelton police arrested the man on Thursday in connection with an armed street robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“The arrest came as information was received by local security companies that a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery was spotted on Lenchen Road close to the N14 freeway,” he said.
He said that a description of the suspect was given to the responding officers.

“When they arrived at the location, the suspect spotted them and immediately began to flee the scene on foot.”
The response officer chased the suspect, while, as Van Dyk said, the SAPS airwing chopper gave support overhead.
“The suspect was finally detained after the team executed a tactical takedown on the N14 freeway.”
An unlicensed firearm was found in the man’s possession when he was searched.
Van Dyk said that the suspect would face charges relating to possession of an unlicensed firearm, attempted robbery, and pointing of a firearm.
“The Lyttelton detective services will be looking to add further charges to the suspect once other case dockets have been identified,” he said.
