First love inspires Midstream artist’s debut single

Callum Stoltz aims to make a big splash with The One that I Love

Falling in love for the first time is a universal experience that has inspired countless works of art throughout history, and for talented young singer-songwriter, Callum Stoltz, it has manifested in his debut single, The one that I love.

Stoltz was born in Cape Town, but soon moved to Midstream. He has set out to make a name for himself in the music industry.

He told Rekord he is the first in his family with a talent for music, as he has been singing since he was five years old.
His musical journey has evolved since through participation in the primary school choir and taking vocal lessons from the age of 12.

“It took about four months to bring the song to life.”

Written entirely by the 18-year-old artist himself, the song is a poignant pop track that delves into the intricacies of experiencing love for the first time.

The song captures the essence of those initial moments of excitement, joy and vulnerability that accompany the discovery of a profound connection with a special someone.

“The inspiration for the song was my experience of falling in love for the first time, about a young lady that I was going out with at the time.

It is a feel-good track with a melody that captures the essence of being in love.

I said to myself one day that I was going to write this girl a song after we were together for about eight months.

She was my first everything.”

The song was produced by Riaan Swanepoel.

“He is such an amazing oke, he really helped me fulfil this dream,” said Stoltz.

He described himself as more of a stage performer, but said that when he eventually got the hang of working in the studio, he felt that he’d come alive.

The authenticity and emotion embedded in the lyrics make Stoltz’s debut a relatable piece for listeners of all ages.

Beyond his musical pursuits, Stoltz has a passion for photography and finds solace in cycling, as well as spending quality time with friends and family.

“I was always doing concerts and competitions, so I decided to go the next step and see where it goes,” he said.

“I am also trying to do some collaborations with other artists.”

Having faced adversity in childhood bullying, he wants to show the importance of choosing strength to overcome negativity.

He said he is inspired by rugby icon Siya Kolisi, not only for his achievements but also for his ability to unite people.

As Stoltz embarks on his musical career with a fresh and genuine perspective, he is actively working on multiple projects, the next of which promises to be another love song, this time with a slower pace.

“I have written a couple of songs already that will hopefully become a reality in the future, as well as two covers that I want to release soon.”

He said he is working on a music video that he hopes will be completed by the end of March, while he seeks to build a track list for his first solo gig.
