A police officer is amongst the six who allegedly kidnapped the Mohammed cousins’.

Police said the six men who allegedly kidnapped the Mohammed cousins’ are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said a multi-disciplinary team was tasked to investigate the Mohammed cousins’ kidnapping.

They effected two more arrests on Tuesday, 26 March 2024.

Mokgwabone said the suspects included a police sergeant attached to Letlhabile Detectives.

Bataviya Mohammed (19) and a minor family member were kidnapped in a brazen, movie-style on the road near a primary school in Brits on 6 March.

The cousins were found on Monday evening, 25 March 2024, in a house at New Stands, Klipgat, near Winterveldt and Mabopane.

Furthermore, the team also confiscated a vehicle that had been allegedly used during the commission of the crime.

“The number of arrested suspects remains at six. This after two of the initial six suspects arrested on Monday, 25 March 2024, were cleared and released after thorough interviews.”

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed the latest developments, especially the arrest of a police officer.

He said this indicates that no one is above the law and that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that alleged perpetrators are brought to book.

The General reiterated that tarnishing of the South African Police Service (SAPS) image by unethical employees will not be tolerated.
