Local youngsters to compete in karate champs in Japan
The JKS Karate-do International Cup will take place from July 18 to 28 in Tokyo.
Eight students from the Apache Karate Club (AKC) in Doornpoort, north of Pretoria will compete in the upcoming JKS Karate-do International Para Cup 2024 in Tokyo, Japan.
The group of students from AKC participated in the JKS SA National Championships in 2023.
According to the owner and head coach of AKC, Amilda van Wyk, the students will form part of South Africa’s national team in the upcoming tournament.
“This prestigious event, hosted by the Japan Karate Shoto Federation marks a pivotal moment in the global karate community, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“However, participating in such esteemed international competitions comes with substantial financial obligations, including travel expenses, visa fees, accommodation and necessary equipment,” said Van Wyk.
The coach said they were seeking sponsorship to ensure that the talented athletes could represent South Africa with the dignity and excellence they deserve.
“Our members embody the values of dedication, skill and sportsmanship that are synonymous with our nation.
Their participation not only enhances their personal growth but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes within our community,” he said.
Van Wyk said the club recognises the indispensable role of corporate partnerships in achieving the goal.
“Your support would not only alleviate the financial strain on our athletes but also demonstrate commitment to nurturing talent and fostering sports excellence.”
Natasha Naidoo, the mother of Wilow-John Stoffels-Naidoo who holds a blue belt in karate, said she is proud to see her child going to represent the country.
“We are extre/mely proud of him and can only thank God for this opportunity.
“These children work very hard and now their hard work finally pays off,” said the mother.
