Ten motorists were arrested for driving under the influence in Hatfield on Friday night.

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) said with the use of the TMPD Mobile Alcohol Testing Center.

“These operations resulted in the arrests of ten motorists under the influence of alcohol, who were detained at the local police station.

“One of the motorists arrested for drunk driving tried to bribe the officers with a R100, and he was charged with bribery.”

The TMPD said additional to the operation 144 AARTO 01 infringement notices amounting to R87 350 were issued, to motorists who did not comply with the rules of the road.

“The TMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro expressed her gratitude to all TMPD officers for their diligent efforts and tireless hours while working alongside other law enforcement officers to ensure that all the motorists adhere to the rules and regulations of the road and everyone is safe on our roads.”

It furthermore added that these operations will continue throughout the year to reduce fatalities and to combat crime in Tshwane.
