Recent Shanela arrests over 300

A total of 1 100 people and 322 vehicles were searched.

Tshwane police and partners arrested 325 suspects during the latest Operation Shanela within the Lyttelton and Brooklyn precincts.

The operation involved high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections, and raids on illicit liquor outlets.

Tshwane detectives apprehended 282 suspects for various offences including 75 for gender-based violence (GBV), two for murder, one for attempted murder, six for armed robbery, and three for rape.

“Three uniformed groups, comprising two tactical teams and one roadblock group, were deployed to police the Lyttelton area. The tactical teams inspected six liquor premises, with all six shown to be compliant with liquor regulations. Additionally, 34 undocumented immigrants and two employers of undocumented immigrants were arrested, charged and detained pending the conclusion of legal processes,” said the district police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk.

Six suspects were arrested for possession of narcotics while another was arrested for dealing in narcotics.

Throughout the operation, 1 100 people and 322 vehicles and 19 premises were searched.

Aarto infringement notices to the value of R61 250 were issued.

The Department of Labour issued 11 contravention notices to businesses.

District commissioner Brigadier Samuel Thine extended his gratitude to all stakeholders for their assistance in the operation.

Other roleplayers involved included the home affairs, labour, and traffic departments, metro police, crime prevention wardens, CPFs, and ward councillors.
