One suspect injured, caught after business robbery

A suspect was left behind while his accomplices made a get-away following a business robbery in Eldoraigne.

Three suspects managed to escape, leaving behind a wounded accomplice, following a business robbery in Eldoraigne on Friday morning.

The robbery took place at a bargain store on the corner of Saxby Road and Cradock Street at around 11:00.

Tshwane SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, said that one suspect was arrested after he was injured, while a further three suspects managed to flee with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Van Dyk said that two people were standing outside the store when suddenly two suspects walked up to them and showed them their firearms. “They ran towards the gym whilst screaming for help,” he said.

One of the suspects then entered the store and held a person at gunpoint while taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the till.

Other suspects waited in two cars outside the store.

According to Van Dyk, the suspects in the getaway car noticed a bystander outside the store who was armed and began shooting in his direction.

The bystander retaliated, wounding one of the suspects.

“When the suspects drove away, one suspect who was in the store was shot and tried to run to the car.”

“But he was bumped by the suspects in the vehicle and broke his leg.”

His accomplices left him behind.

An undisclosed amount of money was recovered, and the injured suspect was arrested. The suspect was taken to hospital by ambulance to receive the medical care he required.

Van Dyk said that the suspect was found in possession of a firearm with the serial number filed off, with three rounds.
