Here is what you should do if you drive into spikes on the highway

More and more spiking incidents have been reported. Here is what you should do if you drive into spikes.

Motorists driving into spikes on the highways are becoming a daily occurrence. Even a police vehicle was targeted on Thursday evening.

So what should you do if you drive into spikes?

Alpha Security Forum provided the following safety tips:

  • Reduce speed, but don’t stop. Try to keep the vehicle momentum going as much as possible. Your life is more important than the vehicle.
  • Try to reach a safe spot or spot with lighting.
  • Share your location on the Spiking groups or any security group or forum.
  • Give a brief description via a voice note.
  • Keep updating briefly via voice notes.
  • If your car can’t go further, leave everything but your phone and run and hide somewhere; make sure to mute your phone and dim your screen; try to keep moving if possible.
  • If you do get caught, lie down with your arms out and all your possessions away from your body, and don’t engage with them.

“Help will come; the nation is on high alert with the spiking; the Metros, SAPS, Security Companies, and First Responders will come; just get the info out there timely.”

It further advised motorists to try not to travel between 19h00-22h00.

When travelling, always share your route or live location with a friend or family member as well, and ask them to monitor.

“The last important thing for all incidents is to keep your medical details, emergency contacts, car license plate numbers on a card or piece of paper apart from your phone or wallet, one in your cubby for instance, at home in your bedroom closet door etc.

Always keep vigilant and focused, stay safe.
