Tshwane police have arrested two men for the robbery of American Swiss jewellers in Bronkhorspruit, east of Pretoria this week.

Police spokesperson Johan van Dyk said the robbery occurred on Wednesday around 11:00, and several items were stolen from the store.

He said the police received a tip-off the following day about the whereabouts of the suspects and the stolen goods.

“A multidisciplinary team, including police officers, Proshield Security, Nightguard, and Tracker, was put together and mobilised in Mamelodi to locate the suspects,” he said.

He said the team quickly identified a white Toyota Corolla that was used in the robbery, along with a suspect, and multiple stolen items from the robbery were recovered.

Van Dyk said the suspect was interviewed and led the team to another address in Mamelodi, where a second suspect was arrested.

“Several cellphones, stolen motor vehicles, an unlicensed firearm, and goods taken in the robbery were recovered,” he said.

He added that a silver Kia Picanto that was reported stolen in Lyttelton in December 2022 was also found.

Van Dyk said the recovered firearm will be sent for tests to determine if it was used in other crimes.
