Marches to disrupt traffic in Sosha, CBD

Tshwane Metro has warned motorists of marches in the CBD and Soshanguve on Wednesday, May 22.

According to Tshwane Metro Police Department spokesperson Isaac Mahamba, Arestebeng ECD Forum will lead a march from the corner of Madiba and Kgosi Mampuru streets from 09:00, while the ANC Youth League will protest gun violence in Soshanguve from 09:30.

“They will gather from 09:00 at an open space at Madiba Street and Kgosi Mampuru Street in Pretoria Central and march to Tshwane House and thereafter to Union Buildings,” said Mahamba.

He said the marchers will join at the meeting point in Madiba Street before marching to Tshwane House and thereafter proceed to the Union Buildings.

The following will be affected:

– Madiba Street
– Kgosi Mampuru Street
– Sophie de Bryun Street
– Bosman Street
– Paul Kruger Street
– Thabo Sehume Street
– Lillian Ngoyi Street
– Sisulu Street
– Du Toit Street
– Nelson Mandela Drive
– Steve Biko Road
– Hamilton Street
– Government Avenue

“They are expected to disperse from the Union Buildings at 13:00,” said Mahamaba.

He advised motorists to use alternative routes as:-

– Nana Sita Street
– Francis Baard Street
– Struben Street
– Justice Mohammed Street
– Park Street

Mahamba said the ANCYL “will gather from 09:30 at Soshanguve Giant Stadium and march to Soshanguve Police Station”.

He said from the gathering point, they will turn onto Buiten Kant Street, turn left on to Commissioner Street, and proceed straight until they reach Soshanguve Police Station.

The following will be affected:
– Buitenkant Street
– Commissioner Street
– Ngaka Street
– Aubrey Matlala Street

Mahamba said the marchers are expected to disperse from the Soshanguve Police Station at 13:00.

He advised motorists to use alternative routes such as:
– Ruth First Road
– Bokhutlo Street
– Ruth Malewa Street
– Mogalakwena Street
– Gaga Street
– Tuva Street

Metro and SAPS officers will be deployed in both areas (Pretoria CBD and Soshanguve) to monitor the marches and all the affected streets.
