Mayor welcomes seven new councillors

During last week’s council meeting, seven councillors, including Mayor Cilliers Brink were installed Aldermen during a special event.
Council Speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana presided over the formalities during the ceremony on June 27.
Aside from Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink, other councillors who received their aldermanship included:
– Juanita du Plooy (Ward Councillor: May 2011 – October 31, 2021, and chairperson of the Section 79 Standing Committee: Rules and Ethics from August 2019 – current)
– Alfred Makhafula (2016 to 2023 PR Councillor. Chairperson: Section 79 Oversight Committee on Community Safety 2016-2021)
– Dikeledi Selowa (2016 to 2023 PR Councillor. Chairperson: Section 79 oversight Committee – August 2016 to November 2020. Mayoral Committee Member November 2020 – November 2021 and from November 2021 – February 2023.
– Yvonne Dzumba, councillor from 2000 to date
– Daryl Moss, councillor from 2011 – 2022 and Mayoral Committee Member from August 2016 to February 2019)
– Mashola Samuel (Councillor 2011 to 2023, Former Chairperson for the Section 79 Community Safety 2011 to 2016, ANC Whip for Community Safety Committee 2021 to 2023)
Only councillors rated 20 points and above qualified.
The recipient of the title of Alderman is issued with a suitable lapel badge and/or such other award as the Rules Committee in consultation with the mayor may decide, which was presented to the recipients at the special Council meeting.
The conferment of the Aldermanship should be seen as a recognition of the councillors who have served the council for a long period of time.
Speaker Ndzwanana congratulated the recipients.
