Over 100 arrested in Tshwane during high-density operation

Multiple arrests were made for different crimes during the operation over the weekend.

Police arrested over 100 suspects in Tshwane for different crimes during a high-density operation this weekend carried out across all policing districts in Gauteng.

The arrests were made as the provincial commissioner took charge of the operation’s roadblocks in Mamelodi East and West.

Spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said 43 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 79 for being in the country illegally.

“Two were [arrested for being] involved in drug dealing, one for employing illegal immigrants, one for dealing in illicit cigarettes, and 10 unlicensed liquor outlets were closed down for non-compliance with regulations.”

Kweza said Mamelodi was targeted due to violent crimes such as murder, assault, hijacking, and robbery that are prevalent in those areas.

She said the operation would continue until there is a significant reduction in crime.

“Parallel high-density operations were conducted across all districts, resulting in the apprehension of multiple suspects engaged in criminal activities.”

According to Kweza, the collaborative effort involved multiple law enforcement agencies and the operation included strategic roadblocks and targeted raids focused on capturing wanted suspects.

She said over 600 wanted suspects were apprehended for various crimes across the province.

“The operation led to the apprehension of over 900 suspects involved in a wide range of serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder, rape, business robbery, drug dealing, possession of drugs, assault, hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearms, and ammunition.
The suspects will soon face justice as they appear before various provincial magistrate’s courts.”
