Pretoria North SAPS take stand against GBV
Police handed out pamphlets containing all the relevant information residents and various businesses need to keep safe.
The Pretoria North SAPS Social Crime Prevention team is adamant that the scourge of gender-based violence should come to an end.
Recently, law enforcement in the north took steps towards this end and distributed over 200 pamphlets of vital information on safety and tips at vehicle checkpoints throughout Pretoria North.
The distribution was a collaborative effort involving several key partners including TMPD and local patrollers.
Pretoria North SAPS Social Crime Prevention spokesperson Sergeant Tumishang Moloto said the primary objective of distributing the pamphlets was to raise the awareness of gender-based violence and give residents practical safety tips.
“It’s better to be safe than sorry, we can’t wait for GBV cases to rise so we want to educate our people that violence against any gender will not be tolerated in Pretoria North.
“By reaching out directly to the community during vehicle checkpoints, we aim to educate and inform individuals about how to protect themselves and seek help if needed,” said Moloto.
He said following a tip-off about illegal activities at a residence in Klerksoord, the team discovered that the property was operating as an unlicensed outlet under the guise of a tuckshop.
“During the raid, officers confiscated and seized a substantial quantity of alcohol amounting to 93 929ml.
“The team also conducted vehicle checks on Dan de Wet Nel and Rachel de Beer Street and one person was arrested for possession of drugs,”
He said several motorists were fined over R12 000 for traffic violations.
Moloto encouraged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and take advantage of safety resources.
