Community mourns death of Moot patroller
The circumstances surrounding the death of John “Dakar” Dreyer are unknown at this stage.
The Moot community is grieving the loss of a dedicated CPF volunteer, John Dreyer, who died while on patrol on Friday morning.
Ancelize van der Kooi, spokesperson for Kilner Park Security (KPS), and close friend of Dreyer, said that the community had lost a hero.
Villieria CPF chairperson Susan Andrews said that he had died while on patrol, but the full details surrounding his death were still unknown.
“We received a call on Friday that there was a man lying in the road in Lawson street.”
She said that emergency and security services were dispatched to the scene.
Dreyer was pronounced dead on the scene.
“‘Dakar’ was known widely in the community, and we have suffered a great loss.”
She said that a case had been opened at Villieria SAPS, and urged community members not to speculate about the circumstances of his death while the investigation was ongoing.
She said that a memorial patrol drive was being organised to honour the life of the dedicated CPF member. Rekord contacted SAPS, who were unable to respond at the time of publication.
