Security thwarts car theft near Laerskool in Nieuw Muckleneuk
The car was found with a broken window on the passenger’s side.
An attempted car theft was thwarted near Laerskool Anton van Wouw in the east of Pretoria on Tuesday.
A suspect was spotted smashing a car passenger window, leading to the security companies and police being called in by the school.
Private security provider, Complete Security Intelligence (CSI) said around 11:00 its control room was called about an individual trying to steal a vehicle.
“At 11:00 our control room received a call from Laerskool Anton van Wouw notifying us that a suspect in a black BMW was attempting to steal a White Toyota Fortuner,” said Dana Bloem Ceo of CSI.
Bloem said the control room immediately dispatched personnel to the scene.
“On arrival at 11:05, the unit made contact with the owner of the Fortuner.”
Bloem said the owner confirmed that the front passenger window of their vehicle had been smashed.
“The police were called however they did not have any vehicle available at the time to attend the scene so officers escorted the owner to Brooklyn police station where a docket was opened.”
He said the owner was extremely grateful for the assistance and excellent service provided.
Bloem said the owner was grateful and relieved that CSI responded quickly and scared away the suspect/s.
According to the latest crime stats released by police minister Senzo Mchunu for the first quarter crime statistics for 2024/25, Brooklyn is struggling with crime.
The statistics include data covering the past five years from April to June.
Theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles has increased by 28.1% in Brooklyn. The station reported 228 cases.
Theft out of motor vehicles has also increased by 17.7%.
At the time of publication, police had yet to comment.
