The Willows house burglar caught in Mamelodi after pursuit
A vigilant neighbour noticed that a burglary was in progress and alerted a local security firm. The Alpha group shared the information and multiple law enforcement agencies responded.
A multiple-stakeholder high-speed chase from The Willows in the east of Pretoria to Mamelodi led to the arrest of one suspect.
The suspect was one of three who broke into a house in broad daylight on Wednesday and emptied the home of all electronics, some clothes and shoes.
According to Aris Ruyter from Alpha Security and Garsfontein CPF, a vigilant neighbour alerted the Alpha group to the active break-in in progress.
Ruyter said the message was shared and multiple stakeholders swiftly responded.
He said the three suspects sped away and a chase ensued.
Ruyter said a team from FirstHelp quickly got eyes on the scene and maintained a visual on the suspects, even as they came under fire.
He said FirstHelp stood firm, ensuring critical real-time intelligence until additional responders arrived.
“Despite being shot at multiple times, their brave actions allowed police to catch up.”
Ruyter said Silverton, Garsfontein, Mamelodi East and West police and the Flying Squad formed part of the tactical chase.
He said as they approached Mamelodi, the vehicle was forced to a stop and three suspects fled on foot.
“One was apprehended but two other suspects escaped.”
Ruyter said the stolen property was recovered.
“SAPS played a pivotal role in this operation by their quick mobilisation, precise co-ordination, and the leadership shown on the ground and in the air were nothing short of exemplary.”
Ruyter said the takedown was not just another operation – it was a showcase of police and security forum co-ordination at its finest, leading from the front and working seamlessly with security teams to ensure justice.
He expressed his gratitude to all roleplayers involved.
The police were contacted but by the time of publication, they were yet to respond.
