Two east stolen vehicles recovered

The Tshwane Flying Squad recently recovered a VW Polo Vivo valued at R242 000, and Toyota Fortuner valued at R746 000.

The stolen vehicles were found in Brooklyn and Silverton.
According to recent statistics, vehicle theft had increased by 28% in Brooklyn but decreased 9% in Silverton compared to the previous quarter.

Sergeant Makwati Alfred Legodi said the Polo was fitted with false registration plates and recovered thanks to tips from the community.

According to Legodi, on the same day, the squad recovered the stolen white Toyota Fortuner.

“Both vehicles were taken to Pretoria West pound for safekeeping.”

According to police spokeperson, Warrant Officer Johan Van Dyk, the most stolen vehicles are VW Polos, Toyota Hiluxes and Fortuners.

Van Dyk urged victims of vehicle theft to contact the SAPS as soon as possible to report the theft.

He said they should give a full description of the vehicle, including registration number, make and model, colour and any unique mark or feature.

“Photos will assist tremendously with the circulation on community social groups,” said Van Dyk.

He said details of stolen cars will be circulated nationally and will only be removed when the vehicle is recovered.

He recommended that a vehicle stolen at a shopping mall be reported to the attending security office for possible video footage.

“Various agencies and companies assist with various technologies to recover vehicles,” said Van Dyk.

He advises vehicle owners to instal a tracking unit to assist with the recovery and to always park where there are car guards.

“Make sure your vehicle is locked by physically pulling on the door handles,” said Van Dyk.
