Care forum gives east streets facelift

Clearing the overgrown grass and cutting tree branches was a way of creating a more safer and pleasant environment.

Pretoria East Community Caring Forum (CCF) embarked on a clean-up and beautification project on October 17 that breathed new life into Rubenstein Drive.

The beautification and clean-up campaign transformed the section of Rubenstein Drive between Van Bergen and Blouhaak streets.

The extensive facelift has transformed the area into a shining example of cleanliness and beauty for the surrounding community, showing a sense of pride and inspiration for residents and passersby alike.

The teams started as early as 07:00 to cut grass, remove weeds, cut trees, clean the Road Island and subdivide plants to enable them to grow.

Founding director of the CCF, Deirdré van Helsdingen said clearing the overgrown grass and cutting tree branches was a way of creating a more safer and pleasant environment.

Van Helsdingen said the facelift restored the median island and put in place some landscaping to beautify the area with some flower planting.

She said the CCF used its funds to clean and beautify the area.

Van Helsdingen said CCF’s efforts are to ensure that the suburb is tidy and seamless to drive through.

The organisation was started in 2019, after a lack of service delivery for years from the metro.

Since then, residents have contributed to the initiative and the community is servicing themselves as much as they can.

“We are making a difference and we aim to make an even bigger difference,” said Van Helsdingen.

She said the CCF moves around the area every week to clean up and keep the suburb tidy.

Apart from the clean-up, the CCF also numbered the street poles according to the Tshwane plan.

“The city has sent us a plan and numbering the street lights and poles, which makes it easier to report a faulty or damaged light and also helps to identify security issues in the street. It is reflecting according to Tshwane standards,” she said.
