A fire broke out in an abandoned house in Lynnwood Glen, Pretoria East, on Tuesday, reportedly taken over by vagrants.

According to the Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (VEMRU) the fire was reported just after 10:00.

“Just after 10:00, the Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit received a call for a house fire in the Lynnwood Glen area in Pretoria East.

“On arrival, we found an abandoned house that had been taken over by vagrants, on fire.”

The VEMRU team initiated a search of the house and property, making sure no lives were in danger.

“The City of Tshwane Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the fire.

“As per some residents, the fire started after someone burned electrical cables. Armed reaction officers detained the suspect and handed them over to SAPS, who will be investigating the incident with City of Tshwane Fire investigators.”

It furthermore said no injuries were reported on the scene.

VEMRU is a registered NPO and PBO that responds to medical and trauma emergencies for free.
