Batteries worth R200k stolen at Montana shop, robbers still at large
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the suspects took 97 different types of batteries.
Police are looking for three people who robbed a Montana battery shop on Monday.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the victim and his colleague opened the shop at 08:00. While working, three unknown men entered the shop.
The armed men held the workers at gunpoint, ordered them to lie down before tying them up.
“The perpetrators started loading batteries into a Hyundai H100,” said Van Dyk.
“Suspects took 97 different types of batteries with a value of R200 000,” he added.
According to a preliminary investigation, the robbers used another vehicle, a silver Honda Accord to get away.
“No shots were fired and no one was injured,” said Van Dyk.
He said an investigation continues and all leads were being followed up.
“Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could result in the solving of the crime.”
The shop owner, Leon van Niekerk, alleged that these were syndicates at work as five other branches owned by him have been robbed.
Van Niekerk added that his employees were traumatised by the incident.
