Moot residents make voices heard as new councillor elected
The DA won Tshwane's Ward 84 in the by-election on Wednesday.
The DA in Tshwane on Thursday congratulated the newly elected Ward 84 councillor, Anru Meyer, on his recent election.
DA Gauteng provincial leader, Solly Msimanga, said Tshwane’s support for the DA spoke for itself.
“We know that the past month has come with many upheavals, which can leave residents feeling as though their vote does not count,” said Msimanga.
He believes residents in the Moot have made their voices heard.
“The ANC-ActionSA-EFF coalition of corruption took it upon themselves to undo a stable government, but yesterday our hand in the Tshwane council chamber has been strengthened. Every single vote, and every single seat in council matters. This hotly contested by-election outcome only serves to prove that.”
He said he is proud of retaining Ward 84, and residents have chosen well because Meyer will enter the Tshwane council chamber with their best interests in mind.
Jacqui Uys, DA caucus chairperson in Tshwane, said Meyer is committed to serve the residents of Queenswood, Villieria and Kilnerpark.
“We also saw that residents of the city want to save the city from the ruling coalition. This is the first step leading up to the municipal election in 2026 with the DA 100% committed to establish a majority government,” said Uys.
Grandi Theunissen, leader of the Freedom Front Plus in the council, thanked his party colleagues who had helped with the campaign of their candidate, Roché Grebe.
Theunissen thanked Grebe for always being available to voters in the ward and for finding solutions to their problems.
He said the party will have to give more attention to the senior citizens in the ward.
“Voters thanked us for not being part of the new ruling coalition. It is heartening that our support in the ward grew with 14% from the 2021 election. There is also growth in the support for our party of 21% from May to October 2024,” he concluded.
