WEATHER: Expect strong to near gale force winds, slight chance of rain this weekend

There is a 30% chance of rain for the capital city on Sunday.

Pretoria residents can expect a relatively hot weekend, with slight rain and strong winds forecasted.

South African Weather Service spokesperson Hannelee Doubell says, “We are expecting a slight chance of rain in Pretoria on Saturday and Sunday. However, we are expecting relatively cool temperatures.

A well-defined upper-air system (cut-off low) is expected to pass over the western parts of the country on Saturday while propagating eastwards and eventually exiting South Africa on Tuesday,” Doubell says.

“This weather system is expected to be accompanied by strong to near gale force winds (55 to 65 km/h) over the Cape provinces, but fresh to strong (30 to 50 km/h) over North West, Gauteng, the Free State and western parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.”

According to Doubell, the winds will cease by Monday.

Doubell said the hot weather is expected to persist over most parts of Gauteng.

She said on Saturday temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 33°C with clear skies.

On Sunday, maximum temperatures will remain at 33°C with a minimum of 17°C with a 30% chance of rainfall.

Doubell said on Monday there’s no chance of rain, with a maximum of 28°C
