Residents urged to save water amid reservoir capacity decline

Laudium and Atteridgeville residents are urged to use water sparingly amid water shortages at the Laudium/Atteridgeville HL system.
According to a statement the metro published last week, “disturbingly” high levels of consumption recorded are likely to leave the system dry.
The metro used water from the Heights Reservoir to supplement the shortages to build up the Laudium/Atteridgeville HL system.
“For the Laudium/Atteridgeville HL system to build up, officials must close the Heights System inlet at night and redirect the flow to the Laudium/Atteridgeville HL system once the system’s levels drop,” the statement read.
The metro said that should Laudium and Atteridgeville not change their water consumption habits, it is likely to lead to prolonged water interruptions.
The metro recently stated that the demand in most of the areas is exceeding what the city can provide, compelling the city to surpass the licenced amount of water it sources from Rand Water.
The water utility is currently pumping about 800 million litres to Tshwane per day when it is supposed to be pumping 662 million litres per day. This is about 18% more than the city’s licence agreement with the water utility.

– Pretoria Town and Townlands 351-JR

– Skurweplaas 353-JR
– West Park
Residents are thus reminded of some of the water restrictions:
– Do not water or irrigate gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler system between 06:00 and 18:00.
– Do not use a hosepipe to clean driveways or patios.
– Do not wash vehicles with a hosepipe.
– Do not fill or top up swimming pools or water features.
