Local entrepreneurs receive cash injection to boost their business
Taxi association chairman Stemmer says they decided to help out by donating to local entrepreneurs because they use their public transport every day to go buy stock.
Ten Mamelodi entrepreneurs have each received an injection of R1 000 to boost their businesses.
The donations were part of a Careerpreneur Day organised by the Tshwane Community Development Organisation at Solomon Mahlangu Square on Saturday.
The event was sponsored by local businessmen and chairperson of MALLDTA, Stemmer Monageng, who donated the money out of his own pocket.
Monageng was impressed with the event, and said his donations were aimed at helping local business.
He said the event was meant to boost local small business that was often neglected, which many people didn’t know much the products available.
He said 25 local entrepreneurs attended the event under the theme “Back my business”.
Event organiser Thabang Tshabalala said of the 25, 10 walked away with R1 000 each donated by Monageng.
He said these donations would encourage local entrepreneurs to boost and maintain their business.
“The businessmen also bought products from each and every stall that was on display at the event as a way of supporting local business,” he said.
“I decided to bring them together in one place so the community can view their products and start supporting local brands.”
Tshabalala added the event would be held annually to give local businessmen, especially the youth, exposure.
He also said he knocked on many doors seeking sponsorship for the event, and the taxi association chairman opened his doors and welcomed the idea.
Monageng said the donation was part of giving back to the community and supporting local businesses.
He said people always flocked to his office seeking help for various issues. “And being a local business, we will gladly give a helping hand whenever we can.”
Monageng said he fell in love with the idea of Career Entrepreneurs Day from the word go, because it was all about supporting local businesses.
“I liked his idea, and I decided to help out because the very same people he is trying to help are the same people who use our public transport system every day going to buy stock.
“Supporting local businesses also puts Mamelodi on the map in terms of business and not to be known as a community that brings only bad memories,” he added.
Monageng said that as the taxi association, they have planned an event for the SMMEs for the month of December aimed at calling local businessmen to showcase their businesses and be known to the community of Mamelodi. The date is still to be set.
