Sinoville Fire Fighters honoured for outstanding community service
The SBBV, composed of a team of dedicated community volunteers, has long been an integral part of the Sinoville community.
The Sinoville Fire Fighters Association (SBBV) has been recognised for its unwavering commitment to the community by Panarottis Pizza in Kolonnade, north of Pretoria.
The acknowledgement served as a highlight of the relentless hard work and sacrifices made by the brave men and women of the fire association, whose daily endeavours go far beyond extinguishing flames.
The SBBV, composed of a team of dedicated community volunteers, has long been an integral part of the Sinoville community.
Their mission extends well beyond firefighting; they engage in a myriad of initiatives designed to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
From fire prevention education to community outreach programmes, their impact is felt across all age groups.
Johan Botha, who founded SBBV 14 years ago, said one of the most vital roles played by the volunteers is their proactive approach to fire safety.
He said the team regularly conducts workshops in local schools, educating children and parents alike about fire hazards and prevention strategies.
“These programmes are designed to instil a sense of awareness from a young age, teaching children essential skills such as how to respond in case of a fire emergency.
“We always go around with our equipment to allow volunteers to experience first-hand the equipment and techniques used to keep the community safe,” said Botha.
He said the association also plays a pivotal role in community support during emergencies.
“Our swift response to fires, accidents, and other crises is a true reflection of our professionalism and dedication.”
Peter Dawanyi of Panarrotis Kolonnade said it’s always important to recognise those who play a big role in the community while you still have the chance.
“This whole initiative is to give a hand to those people such as SBBV because the amount of work they put in is not celebrated enough.
“I mean these people have their normal jobs and still have to perform SBBV duties, that says a lot about their character and their willingness to serve the community” said Dawanyi.
He said the association makes the community feel safe.
“They make us feel safe in such a way that when there’s fire, we don’t panic because we know they are going to do everything in their hands to protect us.
Ward 50 councillor Lenise Breytenbach said the community must step up and work hand in hand with the association.
The association is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join their team and make a difference in the community.
