Metro police arrest two for illicit diesel, bribery
The suspects attempted to bribe the police with R400 to avoid being charged.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) drug unit recently arrested two men in Hercules for theft and bribery.
TMPD officers arrested the pair aged between 31 and 43 on October 30. The suspects were also charged with being in the country illegally.
Drug unit members were patrolling the Hercules area on Van Der Hoff Road when they noticed a suspicious vehicle.
The vehicle was pulled over by the officers, and upon searching it with the driver’s permission, officers made the startling discovery of 18 25l containers of diesel in the car.
“The officers questioned the occupants, they were unable to account for and to produce a receipt or invoice for the fuel and reasons for transportation, nor were they able to provide proper identification documents,” said TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
“Sensing that something was amiss, the occupants attempted to bribe the officers with R400 in an effort to avoid being arrested. However, the officers remained steadfast in their commitment to upholding the law and refused the bribe.”
Both suspects were promptly arrested for their involvement in the aforementioned offences.
Mahamba said this incident served as a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of crime in society and the importance of law enforcement agencies in combating it.
“The TMPD drug unit’s swift and decisive action in this case is commendable and underscores the dedication of the members to ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Tshwane,” he said.
